From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The mound-builders, also known as incubator birds or megapodes are birds from the Indo-Pacific region. They somewhat resemble partridges or pheasants - to which they are distantly related - with huge feet. Their most famous trait, for which they are named, is that they do not incubate their eggs by themselves. Instead, they bury them in volcanic soil or rotting vegetation, usually heaped up to a huge mound.
