Motocoaster
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Zamperla Motocoaster is a model of motorbike roller coaster, announced new in 2006 and first installed in the U.S. in 2008. It uses a flywheel launch system and has a unique way of seating the riders not seen before in roller coasters.
[edit] Design
The Motocoaster model is unique in design because of its seating. Instead of sitting in typical roller coaster seats, passengers straddle the seat, like a bike or horse. Motocoasters use flywheel launch systems, providing quick acceleration and reliability. The typical layout for the motocoaster is a stacked figure 8.
[edit] Locations
There are currently two Motocoasters being installed in the U.S.:
- Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster at Darien Lake, opened in May 2008. This coaster is the prototype model that has been used for testing at Zamperla's factory in Italy. Trains are modeled after motorcycles.
- Pony Express at Knott's Berry Farm. Trains are modeled after horses.
