Moti Lal Nehru College is situated on a sprawling campus near South campus, University of Delhi. It is a beautiful College with gardens all around the main building. It offers courses in Science, Humanities, Arts and Commerce disciplines. The Economics and the History departments have a new face this year with many fresh appointments.
The college is named after freedom fighter Pandit Motilal Nehru. The college, which was established in 1964, started with only 200 students in a school building. Today, it has about 100 faculty members and 2,000 students.
Principal Dr. Ramesh Sharma is a well-known Hindi poet and writes under the pen name 'Divik Ramesh'
The college has large, sprawling grounds. There is also a well stocked library. The boxing and choreography team have won many competitions in the past few years.
Though beautiful from outside, the college is still starving for space and time like other colleges which include nearby Venketeshwar College so that new courses may be introduced. The college does not have its own auditorium what to talk of staff quarters etc. in the absence of adequate funds. In fact this college is one among those very few (11) colleges out of about 80 colleges where Evening classes (colleges) are being run and the Evening college begins at about 3P.M. One can understand the difficulties with regard to space and time are being faced by both Day and Evening Colleges. It is demand of the day that the Evening College must be accommodated somewhere else. It is unfortunate that sometime some of the internal members of the staff (though they are not more than 5%) try to bring defame to the college in the name of Junior/Senior, Gender or Caste. Fortunately majority of the Staff (both teaching and non-teaching) does not allow them to get success. This is on record. Anyone can verify. This college is now known for its discipline and academic achievements also. The management is going on smoothly in spite of the few negative forces. The history department of the college has been one of the most happening departments of the college. In 2006 the department organized a national seminar/workshop on "Exploring Delhi", which was a huge success and it got applaud from the President of India and the Prime Minister as well. In 2007 the department has produced four first divisioners in the History (hons.) course.
