Template talk:Most networked ICT countries

[edit] Notability / Relevance?

What is the relevance of this accolade, and is it worthy enough to be tagged onto country articles? Is it really notable? Thanks/wangi (talk) 17:06, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I see little or no value in including this template on country articles. Any country can reasonably be included in hundreds of lists; to make these lists a template and place them in each country article would result in hundreds of templates in every country article. The template may be relevant in the main article on Information Communication technology (in which it is not currently included, nor does it even link to this article or explain what the acronym means). I suggest it be converted into a list, sourced, and provided with a little bit of explanation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gadfium (talkcontribs) 2008-04-09T21:38:55
Agreed. I'll consider adding it to WP:TFD tomorrow; but have pointed the creator toward this discussion so they can enlighten us! Thanks/wangi (talk) 21:48, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I posted this because I had seen the BBC Technology article on this annual report from the World Economic Forum. I thought that this would be of particular relevance to those who want to work on nationwide-ICT-related articles on Wikipedia (e.g., the presence of the Internet in such-and-such country's population or economy); of course, this shouldn't be a classification for these countries as being part of some exclusionary club like the G8 or something like that.

If anything, I think that this would be better placed in "Science and technology in...", "Internet in" or "Economy of..." articles rather than the articles of each country. Thanks, --Toussaint (talk) 00:09, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Do you not think it's better as a sourced list article; perhaps merged with List of countries by number of Internet users or similar? It's unusual to have a template which lacks a parent article. Thanks/wangi (talk) 08:19, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
True, I'd vouch for a parent article to go with this. I'll create it (?) and see where it goes. But I'd still like to tie the "Internet in..." or "Science and technology in..." national articles into the inside content of the template, since those articles are more or most relevant to the sourced list. Still, I'd like this course of action to be alright with the rest of those who're interested in the subject matter of this template. --Toussaint 23:12, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Go for the article. I think you'll still get push back on those articles though if you add this template. Thanks/wangi (talk) 23:43, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
