[edit] Station
The station has an unusually wide island platform, which is connected to the station entrance and the street by a pedestrian overpass. The platform included a garden and a private dining room for Governor Belmore who spent the summers in nearby Throsby Park from 1870 to 1872.[2] There is effectively Easy Access to the station. Platform 2 of the station contains a cafe. At the north end there is a dock platform, which was previously used for passenger trains that used the connecting line to Wollongong, the junction for which is just north of the station. Since regular passenger trains no longer use this line (apart from an occasional heritage service), the platform is usually unused except as a storage for freight engines.
Since the station is an intermediate terminus for the line, with only a few services continuing further south to Goulburn, the station has a large stabling yard for the Endeavour railcars that use the line. They can be stored here overnight, stabled, and fueled, but are serviced in Eveleigh or Broadmeadow Service Centres.
[edit] Platforms/Service
The station is part of the Southern Highlands Line which has an infrequent service, with trains running approximately every 1.5 to 2 hours. Most trains on the line terminate here, with only 3 trains a day each way on weekdays, and 2 trains on weekends serving the stations further south of Moss Vale. These trains only come in the early morning and in the evenings. During the daytime on weekdays there is a replacement bus service heading south in the late morning, and heading north in the afternoon. The station is also served by four CountryLink services each way; 2 XPT services to Melbourne, and 2 Xplorer services to Canberra. On Saturdays, the morning Canberra service which divides at Goulburn also proceeds to Griffith, the return journey arriving with the afternoon service from Canberra on Sunday.
