Moss James Burmester (born June 19, 1981 in Hastings, New Zealand) is a New Zealand swimmer, who was a gold medalist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. He set a new Commonwealth Games 200 m butterfly record in a time of 1:56.64. He represented his native country New Zealand at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He is also the current Commonwealth record holder for the 200 m butterfly with a time of 1:54.99, set at the 2008 Absolute Insurance Olympic Trials in Henderson. Burmester also qualified in the 100 m butterfly, with a new New Zealand record time of 52.37.
