Mosney
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mosney, in County Meath, Ireland, is situated approximately 48 km (30 mi) from Dublin. It is probably best-known as the site of a Butlins holiday camp in the second half of the 20th century and as the site for the National Finals of the Community Games.
By the early 21st-century, this had been converted into an accommodation centre for asylum-seekers, earning the nickname "Bosney" or "Mosnia" - both referring the large amount of refugees who came from Bosnia to Ireland in the early 1990s, none of which were ever actually accommodated at the camp.
Recent reports in 2008 say that owners of caravan sites within mosney received letter's detailing plans on a reopening & their sites being available for use all subject to planning permission.
[edit] Railway
Mosney railway station, on the Dublin-Dundalk railway line, originally opened in June 1948[1] as a private unstaffed halt to serve the holiday camp. The station opened for public use in 1958. It was served infrequently until the summer of 2000, the last season during which the holiday camp operated.
