As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,883 people, 674 households, and 516 families residing in the borough. The population density was 684.3 people per square mile (264.4/km²). There were 714 housing units at an average density of 259.5/sq mi (100.2/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.94% White, 0.32% African American, 0.48% Asian, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.58% of the population.
There were 674 households out of which 42.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.4% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.25.
In the borough the population was spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.3 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $51,615, and the median income for a family was $59,545. Males had a median income of $45,625 versus $26,012 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $21,725. About 5.6% of families and 6.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.8% of those under age 18 and 12.0% of those age 65 or over.
