[edit] Geographic perspective

This type of arrangement whereby individual loans are negotiable instruments is I beleive is limited to the US only. Certainly this type of arrangement is prohibited or very uncommon in the UK. The article gives no indication to geographical scope therefore I'm adding a tag and ammending the text. simonthebold 15:27, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

This is incorrect as UK mortgages have been sold in securities since at least as far back as 1987. As of 2007, about half the funding for UK mortgages came from the secondary market. Here's a recent WSJ article:
