Eh, from a psychology perspective the underlying principle in that situation is actually a defense mechanism to protect ego, which in this case comes in the form of orders from a team leader. Moral victories also only last when the loss is happening for the first time in a while, or do not mark a general pattern of losing. That moral victory crap goes out the window when kids on the football team are training so hard they're breaking bones and destroying connective tissue and still losing.
