Mortimer W. Byers

Mortimer W. Byers (b. March 28, 1877, Brooklyn, NY, d. March 5, 1962, Brooklyn, NY) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Judge Byers received an LL.B. from Columbia Law School in 1898. He was nominated to the court by Herbert Hoover on September 9, 1929, to a new seat created by 45 Stat. 1409, confirmed by the Senate on November 20, 1929, and received his commission on November 20, 1929. He served as chief judge from 1958 to 1959. He assumed senior status on February 1, 1960 and his service terminated on March 5, 1962, due to death.
