[edit] History

Morris High School can trace its history back to 1872 when classes were held on the second floor of the old Center School building. The high school then moved to its own site on Franklin Street in 1898, with two wings added in 1914. A $1.2 million referendum in 1949 was successfully passed, and shortly thereafter the current building was built. It was added onto again in 1960.[1]

[edit] Academics

In 2005, Morris had an average composite ACT score of 21.0, and graduated 89.6.% of its senior class. The average class size is 21.2. Morris has not made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievements Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act.[2]

[edit] Athletics

Morris competes in the Southwest Prairie Conference within the Illinois High School Association. Its mascot is the Redskin. The school has a history of excellence in all programs. Morris won the 2005 State Football Championship by defeating Normal High School by a score of 14-9. Morris also won the state championship game in 1980, and 1984. Morris High School played in the 2007 5a state championship game Saturday, November 24 @ Memorial Stadium vs. Metamora, in which Morris was defeated 17-14. As of 2007, Morris has been state runner up six times, which ties the Illinois record of most runner up finishes, along with Metamora.
