Morrin Centre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Morrin Centre is a cultural centre in Quebec City. It is designed to educate the public about the historic contribution and present-day culture of local English-speakers. It is located in a National Historic Site in the heart of the old city. This site has housed four different functions:
- Royal Redoubt (1712-1808)
- Quebec City Common Gaol (1813-1868)
- Morrin College (1862-c1902)
- Literary and Historical Society of Quebec (1824-present)
In 2004, the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec became owners of the historic site through an emphyteutic lease. Important interior restoration is taking place to further develop the Morrin Centre.
The centre contains the private English-language library of the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec, heritage spaces for events, and interpretation services.
