[edit] History and Geography
Morrell Park, together with Westport, Violetville, and Mount Winans, were originally part of a tract of land named "Georgia," or "Georgia Plantation," and later called "Mount Clare." This survey, which measured 2,368 acres, was deeded to Dr. Charles Carroll in 1732.
The current Morrell Park is bounded by Hollins Ferry Road, the B&O Railroad tracks and Gwynns Falls to the east, I-95 and Wilkens Avenue to the north, Caton Avenue to the west and the CSX Railroad tracks to the south.
At one point the neighborhood had trolley tracks running down Washington Boulevard; today the only mass transit serving the neighborhood is the MTA Bus line.
[edit] Housing
Morrell Park is a mix of typical Baltimore rowhouses, duplexes and single-family dwellings. Houses in Morrell Park are still considered quite affordable, however the prices have experienced an increase in recent years as Baltimore becomes more popular with people who commute to Washington, D.C., especially since Morrell Park is quite convenient to both I-95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
[edit] Schools
Morrell Park has one public school in the neighborhood: Morrell Park Elementary/Middle School. There are no private or parochial schools in Morrell Park, although the Seton Keough High School and Cardinal Gibbons School are quite close.
[edit] Recreation
Morrell Park has a Senior Center which currently doubles as a recreation center, located near the Elementary/Middle school. Plans are underway at this time to construct a separate recreation center nearby. The Tolley Street Field, at the other end of the road, is the home of Morrell Park Little League teams. DeSoto Park also contains playing fields and a playground.
