Moropant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moreshwar Ramji Paradkar (1729-1794) was a Marathi poet who specialized in Pant-Sahitya.

'Moropant' had a preference for Pruthvi vrutta (meter) and Arya, which is also a vrutta (or vritta). His Kekavali is still read. He was called 'Moropant', and Kekavali makes a reference to his name. Mor=Mayur=peacock. Kekaa = A peacock's high-pitched sound. And 'Kekaavali' is the religious supplication by Moropant or Mayurpant, as he is sometimes called.

Vaman Pandit and Raghunath Pandit were other famous poets of the genre Pant-Sahitya.
