Morning Glory Pool
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Morning Glory Pool is a hot spring in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in the United States (Coords: 44º28´30"N, 110º50´37"W). It was named in the 1880s for its similarity to the morning glory flower. The color is due to bacteria in the water, which has changed the appearance of the pool as the water temperature has dropped. The water temperature dropped due to objects being thrown in, this has clogged the entryways and reduced hot water supplies.
On a few rare occasions the Morning Glory Pool has erupted as a geyser, usually following an earthquake or other nearby seismic activity. Several attempts by park officials to artificially induce eruptions to clear the pool of debris have been met with mixed results.
