Mormon apologetics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mormon apologetics is the field of apologetics directed toward Mormonism. It is the systematic defense of Mormonism against its critics. The term Mormon apologetics also sometimes refers to scholarly efforts to defend a particular view of orthodoxy within Mormonism against dissenting or divergent views. (citation needed)
Notable Latter-day Saint (Mormon) apologists include early church leaders such as John Taylor, B.H. Roberts, James E Talmage and modern scholars such as Hugh Nibley.
There are numerous Mormon apologetics forums across the Internet. A well-known Mormon apologetic organization is the Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research (FAIR). The Internet is also a forum for amateur apologists such as Jeff Lindsay.
The Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS), a research organization based at Brigham Young University (BYU) since 1997, is considered by some critics of Mormonism to be an apologetic organization; however, most of their research focuses on near eastern ancient texts, Mormon history and Book of Mormon archaeology.
