[edit] Biography

'Morlock', officially known as the Tomb Guardian, made his first and only appearance in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. He was a Turelim vampire, presumably Turel's second-in-command. Some time before becoming the protector of the Tomb of the Sarafan, he was killed in unknown circumstances. Wandering the Spectral Realm, his soul later reinhabited his revived body, restoring him to life. The time spent in the Spectral Realm had granted the Tomb Guardian the ability to drain soul energy, becoming far stronger than before. Raziel encountered the Tomb Guardian in a catacomb directly after discovering the Tomb's inner sanctum. The Tomb Guardian appeared relatively arrogant, confident that he could defeat the wraith. Raziel, unimpressed, reminded the Turelim that Kain had already killed him once, and that he had nothing more to fear from death. A soul-devouring vampire was not a threat compared to what Raziel had already seen and faced beforehand throughout his unlife. They proceeded to fight, and Raziel killed the Tomb Guardian once and for all, devouring his soul and discovering a peculiar artifact on his corpse which granted him the ability to shoot telekinetic force projectiles.

[edit] Trivia

  • It is likely that the Tomb Guardian was not planned to appear in the original build for the game. In the original script, Turel, the fifth brother of Raziel, was scheduled to grant Raziel telekinetic abilities upon his death. However, Turel and the area his clan inhabited were removed from the game due to time-constraints.
  • The Tomb Guardian has been named 'Morlock' since his appearance in the game because 'Morlock' is the name given to the Turelim clan of vampires in the programming code. Morlocks are a species of cave-dwelling humanoids who appear in H.G. Wells's The Time Machine.
  • The dialogue initiated between Raziel and the Tomb Guardian is a modified version of the original script between Raziel and Turel, before the latter character was cut from the game.
