Morio Higaonna

Morio Higaonna (born in Naha, Okinawa, on 25th December 1938)[1] is a prominent Japanese karate practitioner and IOGKF Chief Instructor. He is a holder of the highest rank in Gojū Ryū karate, 10th dan.[2]

He began studying Shōrin-ryū style at the age of 14 with his father, and two years later switched to Gojū Ryū. In 1960, at the age of 22, he moved to Tokyo, mainland Japan to study commerce at Takushoku University. He was invited to teach at Tokyo's Yoyogi dojo where he soon attracted a large following of dedicated karatekas.

He is an author of several books and videos on Gojū Ryū.
