Morgantown High School is a high school located in Morgantown, West Virginia. The institution has existed since 1883, with its current campus operating since 1927. It is the home of the Mohigans, the name of a non-existent Native American tribe whose name is a combination of the words Morgantown (MO) High (HIG) Annual (AN), which was the school's yearbook. The Native American mascot and logo were adopted because of the close relation to the name Mohican, a real Native American tribe.[1] As of 2007, it has an enrollment of around 1,760 students.Among the school's student activities are over 20 varsity sports. Morgantown High's football team has won the WV AAA state championship in 1983, 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2005. The girl's basketball team has also won many state championships, in 1990, 1992, 1993, 2005, and 2007. They were also runners up in 2003 and 2006. The girl's cross country team has won four state championships in a row, and even has a special day in Monongalia County recognizing the team for their accomplishment.
