Moreton Bay Regional Council (previously North Moreton Regional Council) is a new "super-shire" by the Local Government Reform Commission, created on 15 March 2008 when Shire of Caboolture, Pine Rivers Shire and City of Redcliffe merged after the local council elections. Legislation introduced into the Queensland Parliament gave the name of the new council as Moreton Bay Regional Council.[1]

The new Moreton Bay Regional Council will cover 2011 sq km, have a population of 337,846 and be represented by a Mayor and 12 divisional Councillors. The new council will be the third largest in Australia by population, behind Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

[edit] Local Transition Committee

The Local Transition Committee is a change management advisory body to guide local level change processes for the transition of Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe Councils into the Moreton Bay Regional Council. By identifying systems and structures, the committee is to help the new Council meet the needs of the community. The focus of the committee is maintain service delivery, efficiently and cost-effectively, across the new Council area.[2]
