[edit] Description
The longest running marathon in Scotland, the first Moray Marathon was held in 1982 and since then it has developed into a 3 in 1 running event incorporating the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K Road Races through the picturesque landscape of Moray.
All 3 races follow the same clockwise circuit with the Marathon starting in the Cooper Park, Elgin, Half Marathon in the spectacular grounds of Gordonstoun School, Duffus and the 10K in the outskirts of Lossiemouth. The finishing line for each is the Cooper Park, Elgin with the 13th century Elgin Cathedral forming a dramatic backdrop.
Moray contains a great diversity of landscapes which include sandy and rocky shores, rivers, lochs and mountainous areas. Most of these aspects have been incorporated into the Moray Marathons and 10K routes by taking runners on tarred roads, passing through the woodlands, coastal areas, towns and villages. The physical nature of these routes with the relatively mild and dry climate of Moray makes them both interesting and enjoyable to all competitors.
