Moranhat is a town and a town area committee in Sibsagar district in the Indian state of Assam.

As of 2001 India census[1], Moranhat had a population of 5779. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Moranhat has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 77%. In Moranhat, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. The National Highway-37 passes through the heart of Moranhat. The town is divided between the two districts--Sivasagar and Dibrugarh. The National Highway acts as the divider, where one one side falls under the Sibsagar jurisdiction and other under the Dibrugarh district. It is predominantly a Hindu-populated area. Muslims, Jains, Christians constitute the remaining population. There are several English medium schools, and various other vernacular schools. 'Moran Higher Secondery School' and 'Moran College is the major institute of this region. While 'Nehru Hindi Vidyalaya' is a school which provides education in national language Hindi. Moran Women College is a well known college in this region, which provides education for girls. The main language spoken in Moranhat is Assamese. The traders switch between Hindi and Assamese. The nearest railway station is Moranhat, and the nearest airport is Mohanbari, which is around 40 km away from Moranhat. Moranhat is well-connected to all the major places of Assam by private and state government buses. Assam's capital Dishpur is some 350 km away from the town. Dishpur (Guwahati) is well-connected to Moran through road and railways.
