[edit] Notability of Mandatory Option
A tag has been placed on Mandatory Option, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Finngall talk 23:04, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a provider of free web space. Articles have to follow certain guidelines, and the subject must have some kind of notability as per Wikipedia's policies. The specific guidelines for bands can be found here. If those guidelines can be met, then the article needs to provides the necessary references to independent, reliable sources to establish this. As you are connected with the band, please also read the notes on conflict of interest.
- A good non-legalistic rule of thumb: If your band is notable enough to merit an article here, someone you don't know will likely write the article for you. Take care, and good luck. --Finngall talk 23:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

- That's not exactly what I said. Read the guidelines. Have you toured widely? Achieved more than a local following? Do you or your music get writeups in major publications? Have you gotten a national record deal? Have you even made a record?

- We delete literally dozens of articles a day submitted by people posting about their "up and coming" bands. Again, this is an encyclopedia. It's not Myspace, and Myspace is a much better platform for posting self-promotional stuff anyway. Don't worry, if you get that record deal, we'll still be here. :-) Thanks, and good luck. --Finngall talk 00:44, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
