A few hints to help you with your editing. It's important not to sign your contributions to articles. We never sign articles because all the text in the articles is common property. It doesn't belong to anybody. Anyone may come and edit it, and you wouldn't want your name associated with something you hadn't written. You do sign anything you write to a talk page.

Please make sure you have a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style, which tells you what an article should look like, and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, which talks about not letting your opinions get in the way of recording facts. Dear Monk:

I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia. Be assured that I was not 'marking' your articles for technical correctness. However I was editing them to conform to Wikipedia standards, and also correcting some of the English. Hopefully you have read the Wikipedia pages I recommended to you, so that you know how we do things here. You should perhaps take a look at some of the other articles we have here, so that you get an idea of the sort of thing we are looking for. P.S. Once again, let me remind you that the standards of Wikipedia require that you do not put your signature in articles. We do not own articles - anyone can edit any article. If you put your signature it will be removed by anyone who finds it, not just me. DJ Clayworth

PPS another Wikipedia standard is that we do not make links to websites outside of Wikipedia in the main part f the article. It is great to see the enthusiasm and knowledge that goes into the creation of your articles. I do recommend to work somewhat more slowly and carefully, though. Fewer articles that contain more of your knowledge in your area of expertise would be preferred. Also, please get yourself familiar with the standards in Wikipedia before removing {{stub}} and {{cleanup}} templates that were often put there by experienced editors for good reasons. [edit] Learn how to edit or stop

Because you took a perfectly fine disambiguation page, erased all the information that was on their and just putr your own poorly written page up, insted of intergrating your information into the present article. You also remove edit tags, a non no considering you seem to have no idea what they mean nor have a desire to want to learn what they mean, and you added your sig to pages then re-added it once they were removed, a no no. Lear how to edit and contribute effectivly to this site or dont at all. I and others have no problem with fixing other peoples mistakes, but many including my self do have a problem with useres that revert back to their mistake ridden versions, and erase the contrubutions of others. I sujuest that you read and learn from these pages, Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers and Wikipedia:Tutorial, before you decide to contribute anymore. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 20:29, 10 May 2005 (UTC)


Another little matter of Wikipedia etiquette. You should not in general erase comments from talk pages. They serve as a record of what was said when. (There are exceptions if someone writes something obscene or insulting). I've restored your talk page to how it was.

I've also taken the liberty of moving the description of yourself to your user page User:Monkofthetrueschool, which is the best place to write about yourself. [edit] Minor grammar stuff

Hi Monk! I'm excited about your contributions and hope you're here to stay. I've been looking at your forest protection article and I had some small friendly comments to make that I hope will help you improve your writing; nevertheless, it's your knowledge we most value and I invite you to continue contributing it in any manner you desire.

Small points:

  • north-american and south-american should be "North American" and "South American"; nationalities, such as Italian, are capitalized in English, and there's no hyphen.
  • Write larger paragraphs. Splitting your writing up into many one-sentence paragraphs can make the text jarring to the reader, especially when the sentences are related. For example, this should all be one paragraph: "Forest protection' can start with the purchase of land in order to secure it, or in order to plant trees (afforestation). It can also mean forest management or the designation of areas as natural reservoirs which are being left to themselfes."
  • Write in complete sentences and avoid fragments like "Also the simple process of urban sprawl and population explosion." You may find it helpful to use bulleted lists, which you can create by placing a * at the beginning of each line.
  • Try and avoid language that's too informal. For example, "currently" instead of "right now", or "become too small" instead of "get too small", or "for certain" instead of "for sure".
  • If you see a red link to a common topic, it's possible you misspelled it or used a different spelling from our article. Try searching for it and creating a redirect if necessary.
  • Try and ensure a continuous transition. Don't jump from one topic or idea to another. For example, there's a big jump here: "In South-america officials of the national acency for the environment IBAMA are lately being shot on their routines....A prime way of establishing a home within a forest without harming it is to built a treehouse or an earthhouse."
  • Use a spellchecker! This will allow you to easily avoid most misspelled words. Assuming you use Internet Explorer, you can obtain one here: http://www.iespell.com/
