[edit] Ego-centric section

Greetings, horse and horseback riding fans! I have strong interests in just about everything equestrian-related. I have probably stuck my nose into the majority of the horse articles on Wikipedia, and if I haven't, it's my goal. You may occasionally see me poke my head into articles on assorted topics related to the Western United States, American Old West, and Native Americans in the United States (no, I'm not Indian, I'm whiter than Lefse and Lutefisk, and away from things equine, I am mostly just "White and Nerdy").

"Ego-centric" is used in this section with tongue firmly in cheek, just in case someone thinks otherwise. It is meant in a lighthearted, joking fashion. Should anyone not get the humor intended, well then, yes, OK, I AM in fact the deity of all things Equine...move over, Epona!

Post on my User talk:Montanabw discussion page if you want to comment on anything. However, if you merely want to inform me that I am an Evil reptilian kitten-eater from another planet, don't bother, I have an lolcat that I can sic on you. However, you are free to give me the occasional Whacking with a Wet Trout if my snarkiness level is getting excessive. But be nice about it, because I am only snarky when I have had a tough day. If you don't like something I edited, take it to the talk page of the article in question and we can discuss it there. If you DO like something I edited or have questions, etc., feel free to post.

While I usually do in fact Assume good faith, you need not refer me to WP:OWN as what I do is called quality control. If your edit improved the article, I will (usually) leave it alone. So please write for an encyclopedia and not for a promotional brochure nor in incomprehensible technical language, remember WP:NPOV, use accurate references that you haven't misquoted, and try to spell check the obvious stuff (I sympathize with typos, my eyesight sucks, but there is NO excuse for "alot" or confusion of "your" with "you're," nor their, there and they're). Please also spare us your unproven theories. (Sorry, but there is NO evidence that horses were domesticated over 10,000 years ago and I don't care what they said in Clan of the Cave Bear or that other crummy movie with Pyramids AND saber-toothed tigers!)

Oh, and URLs to your favorite chat forum, personal business (or that of your cult leader), or stud farm will be removed immediately. To paraphrase from the wonderful blog, Fugly horse of the day, no, we don't need an article about your Friesiawalkaloosavanner. Nor does your pony (you know, Doc Skippy GasoLenaPocoChexDunBarDeckPeppy) meet the WP:Notability criteria. Just give him a carrot and a kiss on the nose.

Finally, believe it or not, there ARE more schools that advocate humane methods of training horses than just your personal cult.

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
I hereby award you this 1:00 am Tireless Contributor award for your efforts to add sources to horses !! Dreadstar 08:27, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Articles

  • Thoroughbred, first GA, now FA, thanks to the people who did all the real work, especially Ealdgyth and DanaBoomer! Go team go!

[edit] Good Articles

The following article which I created and continue to be the primary editor has received good article status:

The following articles, to each of which I was a major contributor of new content and made significant edits to existing content, (and did the vast majority of the footnoting!) have received Good article status:

  • Another good article that came out of the Horses in Warfare project is Horses in the Middle Ages. I cannot claim lead credit on it, User:Gwinva gets the credit for doing the bulk of the work, but I did a lot of cheering on and a few edits that may have been more constructive than not.
  • A great example of wiki-teamwork is Appaloosa, GA status with the help of Ealdgyth, DanaBoomer, Appaloosas, AppHistorian, you folks ALL rock!

[edit] Other potentially cool articles and evidence of editcountitis

Woo Hoo! I not only cracked the editcountitis list! I'm now in the top 1500!

I created the article cerebellar abiotrophy to try and bring more knowledge to this tragic genetic disease that affects Arabian horses. Please send funds for research to the Arabian Horse Association's new foundation, or directly to the Veterinary Genetics Labratory at the University of California, Davis, or the Animal Genetics Program at the University of Bern, Switzerland if you want to help. Contact info in at the bottom of the article.

I have broken out, significantly rewritten or expanded stubs of a whole bunch of other articles. I have now given up on keeping the list. What I need is a wiki 12-step program! However, here are some relatively current new articles I started or significantly expended that you might want to check out:

[edit] Things to work on

UCDavis rearranged all their genetics stuff, all links broken and need to be fixed in color articles:

Sources to cite somewhere:

Financial impact of the horse show industry

I think the following articles need to be created, and I will do so eventually if someone else doesn't beat me to the punch:

  • Janow Podlaski or State studs of Poland
  • Babolna Stud

The following articles, last I checked, are in desperate need of help:
