[edit] Lead section
I'm sorry you didn't like the changes I made to the intro, Jwinius -- I stumbled across the page via "Random article" and was trying to bring it a little more inline with Wikipedia:Lead section and Wikipedia:Guide_to_writing_better_articles#Lead_section, especially since there are many applications (our internal WP:POPUPS, the external apps Trillian and Qwiki, etc) that use the first paragraph of our articles as a definition or gloss on a subject. I'd never seen another article begin with non-sentence list of common names like that, and I don't see an advantage to that style -- could you explain why you'd like to keep it? At the very least, it ought to be Montatheris and synonyms, and not the words "Common names" that are bolded. Thanks! — Catherine\talk 03:18, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, Catherine. I'm sorry if I don't seem appreciative of your efforts, but I created this style (applied throughout Category:True vipers) out of frustration with the status quo. I have to say I disagree with you -- I have always found the multiple bolded names to work just fine in the introduction (your Example 0a), and as I said above there are external reasons not to have a list in the first lines of the lead section, but I don't feel strongly enough about it to try to convince you to change your mind. This is something for you to work out with the other editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life -- if your way prevails as a style guideline, I'll be just as happy to start editing to conform to that instead.
