I screwed up keeping track of who did what, and I WRONGLY tagged you with a NPOV violation that you certainly did not deserve. I left an apology over on your talk page. I truly sorry about that -- it was careless, and wrong. -- ArglebargleIV 04:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mascot?
When did the mascot change? It was always the matador when I went there. Also, do they really misspell "torro"?? Elf | Talk 01:28, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Why not? They misspell "Monte", why not "toro"? I couldn't find the mascot in a cursory search on their website, you might contact the athletic boosters at mvathleticboosters AT yahoo DOT com. Zoe 01:36, August 16, 2005 (UTC)
- Checking the website the best I could find was their newsletter, which includes a sort of "coat of arms" with a matador behind it. But maybe we should at least spell it "toro" until we get a confirmation of the spelling or identity. -Willmcw 06:00, August 16, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] How do I add a page for Monte Vista High School?
aka, the REAL monte vista, not the fake monta vista
- Monta Vista High School appears to be a real school. To start up a different article (presumably about a different school in a different city, click on this red link and start editing. Monte Vista High School. Cheers, -Willmcw 22:29, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, the old rivalry about who spells it right. The trick is, though, that there are at least TWO Monte Vista High Schools, so I'm suggesting that the link you give becomes a disambiguation page that points to both Monte Vista High School (Danville) and Monte Vista High School (Spring Valley). I'll do that now. Elf | Talk 02:33, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] "White Flight"???
As a white junior at Monta Vista High School currently maintaining a 4.1 GPA, I can assure you, "MilpitasGuy", that I have never had any experiences at school in which I felt overwhelmed by the school's racial composition or unable to keep up with my classmates. Nor do I have any friends who have "stayed up all night cramming for an SAT or AP exam". Your recent addition claims that several student suicides have occured at MV over the past few years...I'd like to know where you found this statistic? There's been one suicide at Monta Vista since I began going there in 2003, and it had much to do with self-image and nothing to do with academic pressure. Considering you live in Milpitas, I'm assuming you've never actually attended Monta Vista, and would appreciate it if you would refrain from making negative comments about a school that you know little, if anything, about. -A
- What sources are we using for this new material? Let's keep this article encyclopedic and verifiable. Speculating on the suicide(s) by students is inappropriate. Every high school has them, tragically but seemingly inevitably. However gossip does not belong. All factual assertions and criticism (or praise) of the school should have a reliable source. Ah, I see it's from the WSJ. Hmmm, -Willmcw 08:13, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
"A", who was the one suicider? That girl mentioned in white flight who committed suicide when she went to college?--B0bby flay 07:53, 15 January 2007 (UTC) (UTC) Superscript text
Incidentally she was actually in her junior year of high school, and 'A' is correct, the situation under which this occured had to do with her own personal life and was unrelated to academics.
[edit] Athletics
Please don't put things like "we own everyone else" or brag about Monta Vista's scores. It's wrong for two main reasons: 1: its desrespectful to other schools. 2: its immature.
If you want to present the good skills and abilities of the school's sports teams, please present a short summary of the scores of the various teams. Please do not put massive paragraphs detailing a certain year's achievements. I suggest that we place an "achievements" area under athletics, so that we can put certain seasons that had exceptionally high scores.
[edit] Hacking
In regards to the "hacking" incident.. I believe this should be taken out for now, as it is really not clear that the students were after the final exams, which were actually on a different server than the one they "hacked." They were doing it more for "bragging rights" and "recognition". B0bby flay (talk) 07:01, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
