Talk:Monotone (software)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Great article and improvement, Wmahan. Nicely timed to coincide with the announcement regarding Bitkeeper and the Linux kernel too, good show :) --Hooloovoo 18:48, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I hope the article expands further if and when Monotone becomes famous as the official tool of the kernel developers. :) Wmahan. 19:00, 2005 Apr 7 (UTC)
Do you think that worth mentioning? I mean that Linus expressed an interest in the software on the kernel list, we could link to that post at the bottom? --Hooloovoo 19:21, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Good idea. I added a sentence to the article. If you notice anything else that I missed, feel free to add it. Wmahan. 19:53, 2005 Apr 7 (UTC)
Shall do, much obliged :P --Hooloovoo 20:25, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ignorant Spout

I'm learning monotone myself and I find my learning process is more rigorous if I spout off as if I know what I'm saying. I've tried to check (or better yet, steal) most of my statements but I might have made a howler or two. Introduced the software infobox and removed passages that had become redundant as a result. Tried to slant the lede more toward monotone's distinguishing concepts/features/approach/controversies. If something looks seriously wrong it probably is, so go right ahead and fix it. Earlier I added Linus's comments about the badness of cherry picking. There seems to be a persistent misunderstanding among the casual users of SCM tools that more features is better, but with distributed systems, the feature that seemed like a good idea at first can come back and bite you in the foot. The McVoy comment about corruption leaking through the network and requiring $36,000 to fix could also be introduced here in reference to the extensive (and slow) integrity checks. Maybe once my understanding is deeper I'll flesh this out in a Monotone vs the world section, compare and contrast. Also took the opportunity to incorporate some new information as of the major 0.26 release. MaxEnt 09:45, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

--[[User:None|None] 13:07 3 Dec 2007 There is now a gui interface to monotone, called mtteam. We should put this in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.235.35.150 (talk) 12:08, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
