Monumento LRT Station is a station on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other LRT-1 stations, Monumento station is above-ground. The station serves the southern portion of Caloocan City, and is named after the most famous landmark of Caloocan, the Monumento Circle, which houses the Bonifacio Monument, a famous monument to Andrés Bonifacio. The name Monumento itself is derived from the Spanish word for monument.
Monumento station is located at the corner of Rizal Avenue and Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, more popularly known by its acronym, EDSA. It is the northern terminus for all LRT-1 trains. As such, it is the first station for trains headed to Baclaran and the last station for trains headed from Baclaran.
The station is also close to popular shopping malls and shopping centers like Uniwide and Ever Gotesco Grand Central, which are respectively located on opposite sides of the station. Manila Central University and its hospital are also near the station.
[edit] Transportation links
There has been a proposal to extend the Manila Metro Rail Transit System, or MRT-3, to Monumento, which would result in both stations being linked and Monumento LRT station becoming a transfer point between LRT-1 and MRT-3. Currently, these plans appear to have been shelved in favour of an extension of the Yellow Line towards North Avenue over the same routeing as the previous MRT-3 proposal.
There is also a Philippine National Railways station nearby, but it is presently closed.
Buses and jeepneys that ply the EDSA and Taft Avenue routes also stop at Monumento station, where there is a nearby bus terminal. Taxis are also available from Monumento.
[edit] Future
Monumento will add another platform to go to the Manila LRT Yellow Line North Extension to go to Balintawak, Muñoz, and North Avenue just like Balintawak.
