Montijo (pron. IPA: [mõ'tiʒu]) is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 348.0 km² and a total population of 40,199 inhabitants. The town itself has a population of 25,719.[1]
The municipality is composed of 8 parishes (portuguese, "freguesias"), and is located in the district of Setúbal. It's one of the few municipalities in Portugal without territorial continuity (the other being Oliveira de Frades and Vila Real de Santo António): its territory comprehends two parts, with the town of Montijo located in the smaller, more densely populated part.
The present Mayor is Maria Amélia Macedo Antunes (Socialist) and the President of the Municipal Assembly is António Isidro Paracana (Socialist).
The municipal holiday is June 29.
