Montfortula rugosa is a species of keyhole limpet, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Fissurellidae.

This species is endemic to southern Australia from Western Australia to New South Wales, and New Zealand, on the Kaikoura coast of the South Island, and the Chatham Islands.

This keyhole limpet is found under stones in mid-tidal rock pools.

[edit] Shell description

The shell is small, oval, conical, with prominent primary radials and secondary radials in the interspaces, the whole crossed by concentric ridges, forming scales at points of intersection.

External coloration is dull white, and internally a porcellaneous white except for the the muscle attachment mark on the underside of the shell which is greenish, edged with brown. Sometimes the whole of the interior is greenish.

The shell height is up to 7.5 mm, and length 19.5 mm.
