From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Montevideo is a multipurpose skyscraper located by the river Nieuwe Maas in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. The building has 43 floors and its structural height is 140 m.[1] However, together with the huge M on the roof, the building's total height is 152.3 m, making it the currently highest building in the Netherlands,[2] but even if only the structural height is considered, it is still the highest residential building in the Netherlands.[3] The huge M measures 8 by 8 by 1 meters and is the logo of Montevideo.[2] It is also designed to be a giant wind vane.[2]
The Montevideo skyscraper was opened 19 December 2005.[2] The building is designed by the Mecanoo architecture firm.[2] It accommodates 192 apartments, 6050 m² office space, and 1933 m² retail space.[3]
The building received a commendation award by the International Highrise Award 2006[4], and it has been awarded the Dedallo Minosse Prize [2]. In addition it finished in third place in the 2005 Emporis Skyscraper Award selection.[5]
