Montes de Oro

Montes de Oro is the name of the fourth canton in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 208.34 km² [1], and has a population of 11,806[2]. Its capital city is Miramar.

The mountainous canton lies in the Cordillera de Tilarán northeast of the city of Puntarenas. It is limited on the north by the Río Aranjuez. The Río San Miguel and Río Tiacinto delineate the southern boundary.

The canton of Montes de Oro is subdivided into 3 distritos (districts).

  1. Miramar
  2. San Isidro
  3. La Unión
