Monterreal Castle is a castle in Galicia, Spain. Monterreal Castle is located in a beautiful landscape by the sea. Nowadays it is a Tourist Parador. This was built in the 16th century and preserves three interesting towers: the Reloj tower, the Tenaza tower and the Príncipe tower. It is one of the most important castles in Galicia and, in inside the castle, many important historic events took place. In its structure, two styles are obvious: the medieval style and the Romanesque style; although the first news we have about the castle are from 60, when Julius Caesar conquered Baoina. Apart from the Romans, the Visigoths and Muslims also left their marks in the Monterreal Castle, whose name was given by the Catholic Monarchs.

The Castle is defended by the Puerta del Sol, where there is a ramp with a lifting bridge and three large towers: the Príncipe tower, with a squared structure, which has a circular fortified tower; the Tenaza tower, with a heptagonal base and the Reloj tower that has a lot of battlements. Besides, the building is surrounded by huge walls where many important battles tool place, as for example those of the pirate attacks headed by Francis Drake or the arrival of the caravel La Pinta. This very pleasant Monterreal Castle is located in the Ría de Vigo and the valley of Miño. It is a huge beauty construction that you must not miss. The Castle keeps in good condition and it is a recommended place for people who love history.
