According to the 1991 census, there were 10,071 ethnic Montenegrins in Bosnia and Herzegovina. But the numbers today are smaller by far. There are unknown numbers of total Montenegrins in Bosnia because of the confusing situation whether they are montenegrin by etnicity or nationality, some can consider themselves Orthodox Serbs or Catholic Croats of Montenegrin origin. The Montenegrin population is located in lower Herzegovina. Today, the majority of Montenegrins in Bosnia are declared as Serbs of Montenegrin origin.
