Montagnareale (or Muntagnariali in Sicilian) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, located about 140 km east of Palermo and about 50 km west of Messina. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,794 and an area of 16.2 km².[1]

The municipality of Montagnareale contains the frazione (subdivision) San Nicolella.

Montagnareale borders the following municipalities: Gioiosa Marea, Librizzi, Patti, Sant'Angelo di Brolo.
