In a major expose done by the news agency CNN-IBN in March 2007, MK Subba's identity was called into question. The investigation claims that Subba is a Nepali national (not an Indian citizen) by the name of Moni Raj Limbo, who is convicted of murder. Among the details used as evidence: - Moni Raj Limbo's father and brother have the same names as Subba's father and brother - Three different places have been listed as Subba's birthplace in election filings, along with three very different dates. - Subba's listed school has never existed. - People from Moni's past, including an ex-wife and business associate, have confirmed the reality of his status. - MK Subba owns property in Nepal, when it is illegal by Nepali law for Indians to own property there. - Moni Raj Limbo escaped from Nepali prison in 1973 and was never found. There is no substantiated evidence of Subba's existence in India prior to this time.
