Mong Kok is an MTR station located in the central area of Mong Kok, Kowloon. It is between Prince Edward and Yau Ma Tei stations on the Tsuen Wan Line and Kwun Tong Line. Mong Kok's livery is Dim Red. The initial English name for the station was Argyle, after nearby Argyle Street. However the station was renamed upon the Island Line's opening.
Mong Kok opened on 31 December 1979, originally serving as part of the Kwun Tong Line towards Tsim Sha Tsui and Central. When the Tsuen Wan Line opened in 1982, it took over the original line south of Yau Ma Tei station.
Mong Kok Station serves as a same directional cross-platform interchange between two MTR lines, allowing passengers to change trains either from the Kwun Tong Line trains to southbound Tsuen Wan Line trains towards Central, or vice versa. The Mong Kok East Station is nearly 500 metres to the northeast of the MTR station. More than 200,000 passengers use this station daily.

Passengers from Central or Admiralty are better off if they change to the Tseung Kwan O line at North Point, and change to the Kwun Tong line if necessary if they wish to travel towards any MTR station east of Kowloon Bay.
On the other hand, passengers from East Kowloon who want to travel towards Hong Kong Island can walk across to platform 2 to transfer to the southbound Tsuen Wan Line train.

[edit] MTR East Rail Line (Exit B3 or D2)
Mong Kok East Station and Mong Kok Station are considerably far apart. To reach the Mong Kok East Station, commuters would need to get out through Exit D2, walk along Argyle Street until they reach the viaduct, and then walk up to Grand Century Plaza where they may enter the Station.
Passengers could also use Exit B3, and walk along the footbridge above Mong Kok Road and Sai Yee Street to Grand Century Plaza. The entrance for Mong Kok East station is located in the shopping mall. This route is well-covered and away from the crowded Argyle Street route, which is always congested with vehicles and people.
