Monaco's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul was the first after a twenty five year break. Broadcaster TMC decided it was time for a comeback to the contest by the country who had previously won in 1971. An internal jury chose singer Maryon to represent the country with the song "Notre Planète" ("Our Planet") sung in French. Because of Monaco's absence from the contest, they had to compete in the semi-final (incidentally this was the first televised Eurovision semi-final). The country only managed 20th place and therefore did not qualify for the final. The voting from Monaco during the semi-final was declared invalid because of the lack of votes cast and so a back-up jury had to be used for both the semi-final and the final.
