Mona Lisa was born on November 20, 1979 in Yonkers, New York to a African American/Native American mother and a Caucasian father. Mona's mother is a Pentecostal minister. She was once signed to Island Black Music, a subsidiary of Island Records from 1995-1998 and Def Soul, a subsidiary of Def Jam Records from 1998-1999. On June 11, 1996 Mona's debut album 11-20-79 (which acknowledges her birth date) was released. 6 out of the 13 tracks that appeared on the album were written or co-written by Mona. Later that year Mona guest-starred on an episode of the Nickelodeon show Kenan & Kel titled "Dial "O" For Oops" as Kenan's crush, Amy.
A second album was recorded titled Gettin' It On that remains unreleased. A promotional 12" vinyl single and a music video were released for the lead single, "Peach" and it is rumored that a retail CD single was also released. The title track, "Get'n It On" was available on the soundtrack for the movie Woo. In 2004 Mona was featured on rapper Cam'ron's song, "Girls". The single peaked at #77 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks Chart.
In 2007 Mona signed with Ontourage Entertainment, an independent record label. A new album is said to be released in 2008
