Molly Beanland (born 26 November 1985) is an English singer-songwriter from Suffolk, England. She currently lives in London or New York.

[edit] Biography

Beanland was born to Marion Ann Edwards and Stan Beanland at London's Guy's Hospital. She moved with her family in the 1990s to live in the county of Suffolk. She officially resides in London, but is often listed as residing in America due to her musical and emotional ties with Los Angeles, California and New York.

Beanland studied classical voice at the Guildhall Junior school aged 12 but left the school after less then a year when she won the lead role in Annie at the Angel Theatre, but was forbidden from performing in shows/events outside of the Guildhall. Her performance in Annie was well received; "she struts about the stage like a real pro" -The Evening Standard.

She attended Sylvia Young Saturday school for one year, whilst aged 13, performing in various shows.

Molly took her A-levels after one year's study rather than two and was offered a place at Queens' College, Cambridge University to study English. She attended Queens' for one year before leaving to sign with Island Records, Universal in 2005.

Her recording contract involved a long period of development and collaboration. Beanland has been quoted as saying her time at Island was poorly managed, and that she was pushed in directions that she was unhappy with. Her myspace blog reads "They are a pop label and thus tried to push my music to be as pop as possible. But that's not what creativity is about, not what I'm about. I write songs... and when I do it's with absolutely no thought as to how many "units it could shift."

She parted with Island in October 2007 due to artist differences.
