Moldova has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest four times, in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. This is due to the country only joining the European Broadcasting Union, which countries must be part of in order to compete in Eurovision, in late 2004. Following the poor result in the 2006 Contest, the Moldovan broadcaster announced that it would withdraw from participation and did not allocate a budget for the 2007 Contest. However, in response to public pressure, TRM filed the preliminary documents to compete and sent Natalia Barbu with song "Fight".[1] In 2008, Moldova, for the first time in 4 years of trying, failed to make the Final, their jazz number, "A Century Of Love" being mooted as the worst performed on the night.
