Moldavian-German relations are foreign relations between Germany and Moldova. Germany has an Embassy in Chisinau, Nikolaus von der Wenge Graf Lambsdorff is the German Ambassador in Moldova. There is no border between Moldova and Germany. The number of German in Moldova and of Moldavians in Germany is insignificant.

When visiting the respective country, a mutual visa obligation exists for both nationals for any border crossing, except for transfer passengers.
[edit] Economic cooperation
Germany is one of the most important Western commercial partners of the Republic of Moldova. In 2007, Germany was the fourth biggest importer to Moldova. The value of exported from Moldova goods to Germany was 145 mill. € in 2007. The value of exported in Moldova German goods was 270 mill. €. After becoming immediate neighbour of the EU, Moldavia benefits from the EU-Neighbourhood Policy and the awarded asymetric trade preferences (ATP+) interested in a time of one year numerous investors from Germany, which also includes relocalisation of companies from Germany to Moldova. Such large German international companies are present in Moldova as: Knauf, Metro AG.
[edit] Diplomatic cooperation
The Federal Republic of Germany recognised independence of Moldova on 14 December 1991. The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Germany were established on 30 April 1992. Germany opened its Embassy in Chisinau on 2 November 1992 and Moldova opened its Embassy in Bonn on 28 March 1995.[1]
In May 2006, Moldovan President Valdimir Voronin visited Germany and met with Angela Merkel. In the beginning of October 2006, the President of Bundestag Norbert Lammert visited the Republic of Moldova, just as did Federal Minister Glos in October 2007.
[edit] Cultural relations
The high point of German-Moldavian relations became the Culture Day of Moldova in Germany in 1998. An important association is active in Germany "Cultural Union Moldova" (German: Kulturverein Moldova). In 2004 was registered the "Society of Moldavians in Germany" (German: Gesellschaft der Moldauer in Deutschland e.V.), which was founded an dregistered by the Moldavian diaspora in Germany. Also an active role is played by the "Union of Bessarabian Germans", whose representatives are ethnic Germans left Bessarabia in 1939-1940 for Germany.
Educational German exchange programmes include such as DAAD and Goethe Institut in Chisisnau and branches in Balti, collaboration with the Minstry for Education, Youth and Sport of Moldova. The Council of University Rectors of the Republic of Moldova and the Conference of University Rectors of Germany established close ties (German: Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK)). On 1 March 2006 "Institute-Moldova" (German: Moldova-Institut) was opened in Leipzig. The main activities if the institute are the promotion of dialog and dissemniation of cultural contacts with institutions from the Republic of Moldova in the field of research, organisation of scientific conferences and realisation of joint projects in the field of educationn sciences and culture.
