Mojo Collins is a native of North Carolina who was the lead singer of Sawbuck which was signed to Fillmore Records in San Francisco and managed by rock promoter Bill Graham. Mojo was also the lead singer of Initial Shock in the late 1960s in San Francisco. He has many releases on major labels and also his own Jomo Records.[citation needed]
During his career, he opened for such acts as Janis Joplin and Big Brother and The Holding Company, The Grateful Dead, Santana Blues Band, Muddy Waters, Jefferson Airplane, Steve Miller, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Leon Redbone, Chuck Berry, Ike and Tina Turner, Iron Butterfly, Pink Floyd, The Charlatans, Country Joe, Elvin Bishop, Fleetwood Mac, Tower of Power, Canned Heat, The Sonics, The Association, Petula Clark, Malo, Juice Newton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the original Yardbirds with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton.[citation needed]
In 1999-2000 he received the prestigious songwriting Fellowship through the N.C. Arts Council.[citation needed] He has worked on many philanthropic events including helping to save a few national landmarks like the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Jockey's Ridge State Park.
