Moirae (military)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moirae (Greek: Μοίρα) was in the Byzantine Army the analogue of a Division in the modern armies.

The Commander of a Moira was given the title of Drungarios.

One Moira (=Division) was divided into ten Tagmata (=Battalions).

From Moira the later Greek word Moirarhia or Merarhia (meaning also Division) is derived.
