This article seems to show two different people as the 18th Sultan. Could someone with more knowledge please clarify this?

[edit] Serious confusion

Most of this makes no sense at all... Is he the son of the 18th sultan or is he the 18th sultan? And then if he is the son of the 18th sultan how did he become sultan right after the 17th?

He was the 19th. He was the son of the 17th.

[edit] Art Of Deduction

--If you look at the List of Sultans of Sokoto, it shows you all of the Sultans. Maccido is listed as the 18th, and Abu, his father who is also called the 18th on this page, is listed as the 16th. Also, if you simply read all of the page, it is easy to deduct that Abu is the 16th. To quote the page: "Maccido did not succeed his father as Sultan directly. After Ibrahim Dasuki, the 17th Sultan, was arrested and banished by Nigerian military leader Sani Abacha, Maccido was appointed Sultan." That one sentence states that Dasuki was the 17th Sultan, and was the Sultan directly after Abu. That makes Abu the 16th, and Maccido the 18th. I'm going to edit it to show the correct numbers.

According to that list (as well as my Google search), you're off by one number: he is the 19th. I fixed it. Yevgeny Kats 23:27, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just a side note...

Now here's a person whose death was more important than anything else. He had to die before he could get a wiki article over one sentence.Ajaxrools 05:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Is that good or bad? For us, I mean... --Planetary 06:19, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't think so. He was significant to a lot of us. I think it's more a matter of a systemic bias. I made what changes and additions I could to the Sultan of Sokoto page years ago, so to speak.
Given the events of the last few days, we need to work on documenting the office of the Sultan of Sokoto and personalities related to it. I am not in Nigeria and don't have access to documents, but I am available if anyone can take the lead. Please drop me an email from my User page.

[edit] Move

I'd like to move this to Muhammadu Maccido, the form used by him and officially.
