[edit] 2005 deaths categorisation

I think it's premature to categorise this under "2005 deaths." His remains haven't been identified. It's possible they weren't on the trains, at least from my understanding thus far (I haven't read today's UK newspapers in detail). It seems to me we can wait on the categorisation until we have definite proof. Moncrief 09:35, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Timing

Will editors PLEASE avoid using terms like "about 5 months ago" and "about two years ago". This is an Encyclopedia we're writing, not a newspaper (try Wikinews for that!). This article will hopefully be around for many years, so quote approximate dates, not relative time periods. -- Arwel 23:21, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, keep in mind a big event like this draws in a lot of non-regular Wikipedians, tho. --Dhartung | Talk 04:18, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] bias or pov

I have just edited to remove some language that is suggestive rather than factual.

  • ref to the mosque that he didnt attend - why was it mentioned at all?
  • ref to leeds mosque as a radical one - surely pov
  • run on about the nature of injuries to the bomb victims - better placed elsewhere
  • implied use of aliases where the names used are substantialy just different spellings.

This was a tragic event and It is not my intention to obscure any facts relating to this person. however as it stands at the moment we only have a police statement accusing this person, we should therefore be careful not to let prejudice influence the facts that are included here. DavidP 03:05, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, the Leeds mosque is definitely not radical. The imam has condemned the bombings as contrary to Muslim law. Injuries to the bomb victims isn't something that belongs here, either, and just invites POV. And I'm surprised there's so much disagreement over spelling of someone who was actually born in the UK -- I would think transliteration would be standardized, and they've acutally printed a couple of these guys' birth certificates. --Dhartung | Talk 04:17, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

MOHAMMAD SIDIQUE KHAN PRAYED AT LEEDS GRAND MOSQUE. THIS IS A TALIBAN RUN MOSQUE (EVERY ONE KNOWS IT) THE REASON WHY MP'S WERE CALLED TO THE MOSQUE WAS SO THAT THEY COULD GET THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHO GOES INTO THE MOSQUE (A.K.A A POLICE SERVEILANCE) KHAN PRAYED FIVE TIMES A DAY, HE EVEN PRAYED HIS EID AND FRIDAY PRAYS AT GRAND MOSQUE. ALONG WITH HIM ATTENDED SHEHZAD TANWEER, HASIB HUSSAIN, SHIPON, TAFF AND SHAKI (THESE 3 ARE THE WORST. I BELEIVE THAT TAFF RECRUITED ALL 4.) THE HARDY STREEETS MOSQUE WAS USED FOR TYKWONDO (I THINK THATS HOW YOU SPELL IT) AND MARTIAL ARTS. (NO TERRORIST TRAINGING OR RECRUITMENT) I KNOW THIS BECAUSE EVERY WEEK I USED TO BE WITH HIM DOWN THERE. AND HE DID NOTHING LIKE THIS. P.S. THE IMAM CONDEMED IT BECAUSE HE'S BEING FED BY BLAIR (A.K.A HE'S ON DOLE) IF HE SAYS ANYTHING WRONG HE'S OUT OF THIS COUNTRY AND ALSO. THAT VIDEO WAS MADE IN 2004 AT OMAR BAKRI'S HOUSE IN BIRMINGHAM

Most news sources, even British, use the colloquial form Leeds University, but I've changed this to the formal name to reduce confusion with the school attended by Tanweer, which is Leeds Metropolitan University. --Dhartung | Talk 04:56, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

KHAAAAAAAAAANNN! AdamRock 17:56, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

LOL I assume that's ST2:WOK. Anyhow: 'parently he visited Parliament as a guest of a Labour MP.[1] Oughta find out which. (And, myself, I think he was as much a suicide bomber as that horse in 1920.) Kwantus 23:30, 2005 July 15 (UTC)

Yabbut they haven't found any remote detonators. I can theorize about scenarios where they were persuaded they were on a dry run or whatnot, but that's much more speculative. Most suicide bombs are manually detonated. [2] In Spain the cell-phone detonators were easily found. --Dhartung | Talk 23:47, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
In the first stories the bombs were on timers. Mirror still refers to timers.
For completeness, here's a new story, which should be treated as anonymous hearsay (aka BS): "man, who refused to be identified...said `From what I've heard, [Khan] used to travel extensively overseas, especially to Asia – Pakistan, Afghanistan.'"[3] Interesting; so, these people were smart to survive mass fabrication of unstable high explosives yet so twitty as to waste well-trained operatives on timered bombs. Kwantus 04:24, 2005 July 16 (UTC)
The Mirror story prompted a police reply "We've never used the phrase 'suicide bombers'."[4] No denials of its evidentiary claims. Kwantus 14:10, 2005 July 17 (UTC)
Herald-Sun claims no timers were found. Canberra Time's version of this story doesn't say one way or the other; odd, since that's the crux of the issue. Kwantus 20:40, 2005 July 18 (UTC)
It's almost 12 days on. If they'd found timers, they'd be forensically on top of that like ants on honey. Who built them? Where did they come from? What "style" clues can be gleaned from the construction? &c. --Dhartung | Talk 20:58, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
on top of that likes ants on honey if it's an honest investigation. The "evidence"/"facts" have been mutated and diddled and retracted and modified (eg the explosive was originally reported as C4: "Traces of the explosive known as C4 were found at all four blast sites." "the only `concrete evidence' was that the explosives were not homemade."[5]) so much that what little benefit of the doubt I was willing to give desperate Phony Liar's British bombing frameup minions is long dead. The one thing they got right this time was making sure the fall guys didn't live to mount a defence. Kwantus 00:10, 2005 July 19 (UTC)
Thanks for your twaddle. I hope you have sources for all of this. Oh, wait, you have a blog. --Dhartung | Talk 16:21, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Unclear sentence

I removed this sentence "Khan was connected to the 13 terrorism suspects arrested in Leeds in August 2004, after anonymous U.S. sources leaked news of the arrest and "turning" of their Pakistani contact Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan to the news media," because I couldn't work out what it means. SlimVirgin (talk) 18:17, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Date format

Someone keeps changing the date formats. My understanding is that the reason for wikifying them is so you can set how you want to view them in your preferences, so there's no need to change them in the text. This only works apparently for full dates (day, month, and year), so there's no need to wikify others unless you want to draw attention to them for some reason, as with any other word. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:41, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image

AI, could you say what you're trying to do with the image? Where you have it is currently stradding two sections, though that's perhaps connected to my browser. What problem are you seeing with my version? SlimVirgin (talk) 00:52, July 24, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Motive

Nothing on motive? Not opinion, but written or heard statements of the man's views. --Timtak 04:26, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

Mohammad Sidique Khan is a wanker. Thats his only motive. Prick will burn in hell!

[edit] Where's the video?

HAS ANYONE GOT THE FULL VIDEO OF SIDDY LAD? I WANT TO SAY WHAT HE SAYS FULLY NOT PARTS OF WHAT HAVE BEEN CHOPPED DOWN.

Can anyone get a link to the video, not the transcript? How did aljazeera get it? If they broadcast it it must be somewhere Dsol 15:13, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

yep, here you go! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4206708.stm

Ok, great. First much thanks. Second, can we cache this somewhere, somehow, for when the BBC article expires? Can we do it without copyvio, maybe by editing down to the part where he's speaking? And third, this seems to be only a small portion of the tape that was broadcast of Al Jazeera, which was in turn just a small portion of the whole tape. Can we get anything more? Did Al Jazeera say where they got it? Their english website hasn't got much to say, and I don't read arabic... maybe someone could download the whole on thing on some p2p network?...Dsol 16:25, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

BBC News articles don't expire - they still have stuff from 1997 on there. I've changed the word "translation" to "transcription" as he spoke in English 81.178.207.187 20:27, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Choice of active/passive voice

I'm not sure about the sentence 'Khan bombed the Edgware Road train in which seven people died, including himself', which seems to me to be overly NPOV. Personally I would change it to 'Khan bombed the Edgware Road train in which seven people were killed, including himself' to make it clearer that he was directly responsible. Maybe I'm just being sensitive? Stonejag 17:52, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Mohammed Sidique Khan.jpg

Image:Mohammed Sidique Khan.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:03, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
