Mohawk Upper Castle Historic District is a historic district that was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993.[1] It includes the Indian Castle Church as well as archaeological site areas.
Upper Castle was a fortified village. Its name differentiates it from Lower Castle, another fortified village near the current Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site.
The Indian Castle Church, built in 1769, is the only colonial Indian missionary church surviving in New York State, and is the only Iroquois building surviving from its time.[3]
The church is located on NYS Route 5S near Danube. A cemetery is visible on the slope behind the church.
