Mohammed "Mo" George (born Mohammad Michael George in 1982 to a Jamaican mother and Antiguan father, in Hackney, London, England) is an actor who has played Gus Smith on the soap opera EastEnders since May 2002. Gus is rarely involved in major storylines; however, is quite often seen carrying out his duties as a roadsweeper. Before appearing in EastEnders, George made guest appearances in Holby City and The Last Detective.
George has a daughter, Olivia, from his relationship with Emma Archibald. His daughter was born in 2005, unexpectedly as both parents were unaware that Archibald was pregnant.[citation needed]
George was arrested on 8 December 2006 for a suspected assault on Archibald during an argument outside a restaurant.[1] She, however, has dismissed these claims, saying he did not attack her, but they had simply been arguing over who should empty the dishwasher.[2] George was cautioned by the police for having swung a bag of garbage. [3] George was subsequently suspended by EastEnders Executive Producer Diederick Santer for two months, apologised to the BBC and the show's producers.[4] It was announced on 18th January 2008 that George and EastEnders had reached a mutual agreement not to renew his contract and he will leave the show after six years, later in 2008.[5]
